Wrapping a Gift Without the Wrapper

Blogging from Cebu,♥ Yen ♥

Cebu has become my second home. Here, I've found a sense of belonging.

A lot of times I felt incomplete but never unhappy. I don't have a family here whom I can share my happiness with but I have known good people who give me that incredible feeling of "being home". One of them is my landlady. She's Kim's landlady, too. Her boarding house is my home for almost a decade now. It's not the place that gained my loyalty. It's her.

We call her Manang - a polite way of addressing an elder female. She is like my Lola (grandma) in so many ways and I love her. She just celebrated her 69th birthday. Since she's close to my heart I prepared a special gift for her. I bought her something useful and added more personal touch and lots of love into it. My gift is not pricey but priceless in many ways. Here it is.

Materials:
2 floral sun dresses (the gift!)
1 meter beige satin ribbon
1 gift tag
scissors

Thoughts from the Heart: Photo Bookmarks

From Kim, Blogging from Sunny Singapore

Two days more and it's either a dreaded day or a happy day for any one of us. Nonetheless, we would like 14th of February to be a special day for both singles and couples. By tradition, my friends and I exchange gifts on this day to show how much each of us are treasured. The gift I got this year is a book which got a lot of meaning. I am one chapter short of the end of the book but my time is precious I wanted to find the perfect time to finish it. To cherish this wonderful gift, a lovely bookmark would be most suitable.

This bookmark is going to be full of thought so I printed out some of photos I took before. Grab any of your photos that you cherish, be it from a night out with friends or from a crafty day. If you don't have a photo collection, try to get some royalty-free images from the internet. It should be safe to use them as long as it is for non-commercial purpose. Glancing at your photos full of memories while in taking a break from favorite book would be a great idea. Printed books and paper won't be obsolete too soon so why not take the chance to make paper bookmarks while we can.

Resize your favorite photos and print them on a photo paper. If you have a problem determining the size, try to paste them into your word processing application like MS Word. Select the size of your paper for the page setup and resize photo to ensure it doesn't exceed the edges of your margin and paper. I used an A4 glossy paper for this project for a full photo print. If you have no time to print, just pick an old photo from your collection.

Cut along the edges of the photo or leave out a white border. There are three photo bookmark designs here for you. The trick is which ribbon or string to use. For this project, we used fabric tapes, waxed cords and some decorative yarn.
